The 2025 season awards saw the players, families and friends of the Club gather at the Orchard Ground to see great cricket achievements and disasters celebrated with equal enthusiasm.
With a royal banquet prepared by Shetty and Phadake Ltd and a rousing introductory speech by the Club Chairperson, followed by a 'hands on head' game that left the audience baffled and hoping to see the return of Kit and Ollie next year, it was time for the awards.
Some were obvious, others unexpected leaving the recipients in a state of shock whilst the more damning awards left players looking at the floor hoping not to hear their name mentioned.
All in all, a great evening and a fitting end to a hot, cricket filled summer - same again next season.
Innings of the season
George Holmes 153* v Westcroft CC (that's 50% of your season runs in one afternoon)
Worst Innings of the season
Owen Venables golden duck v Brooklands Blasters (immediately followed by a 161 partnership on a complete road of a pitch - what a waste Owen)
Best Bowling Performance of the season
Dawie Viljoen 5 - 23 v Bedford Malayalees (top of the table team consigned to a 10-wicket thumping set up by this bowling masterclass)
Worst Bowling Performance of the season
Ryan Bullock v Grumpy Monks (0.5-0-18-0) (Widely considered to be the least effective Captains intervention in the 100 years the club has been playing this game)
Sunday Player of the Season
Matt Blame - 128 runs, 7 catches and 2 stumpings (stumping 12 year olds is a life lesson they won't forget in a hurry)
The Ryan Bullock Band Aid Award for being injured
Keith Young - joined the club injured, remained injured for the majority of 2025 and turned up to the awards night with his arm in a sling. A high bar has been set.
Young Cricketer of the Year
Freddie Palmer - 163 runs, 1st senior 50, 5 wickets, 4 catches (father soon to be relegated to the second-best player in the family)
Batsman of the season
Riaan Krynauw - 429 runs at 86 with 2 x 100+ scores (even more remarkable given some of the away tracks we encountered this season)
Champagne Moment
Tom Gadsby - one handed catch at Great Brickhill rolled back the years (admittedly the initial misjudgment made this more dramatic than was needed)
2nd Team Player of the season
Riaan Krynauw - lots of runs, lots of wickets, lots of South African chit chat to the opposition.
Bowler of the season
Matt Palmer - 18 wickets in just 37 overs at 10.1 (lethal on a dusty track with erratic bounce)
Fielder of the season
Harry Gadsby - 13 catches and 4 run outs (his father assures us his champagne moment was better than all 13)
Ben Orchard Man of the People Award
Ryan Bullock for his inspiring pre match motivational speeches - fragments of which made sense.
Robin Harrhy Clubman of the season award
The Game Changers Team - for setting up and delivering an inspiring and completely accessible route to this wonderful game of cricket.
Most Improved Player of the season
Simon Weaver - from erratic to metronomic in 2 seasons. And his mother makes fabulous cakes.
Brown Ale Moment for Foolishness
Matt Balme - for packing his daughters kick boxing gloves instead of the wicket keeping gear. So very close to securing legendary status and only prevented by an observant skipper.
1st Team Player of the season
Harry Gadsby - 634 runs at 35, 20 wickets, 13 catches, 4 run outs (plus an entire season delivering one of the best cricket grounds in the county for which the entire club are hugely grateful).
