Cublington in captaincy chaos

Cublington in captaincy chaos

Anthony Lewis22 Apr 2023 - 21:02

Permission to speak sir - who’s actually running this operation ?

A friendly pre season game away at Waddesdon saw Cublington lose a one sided encounter with no one quite sure who to point the finger at.

A week of planning and promises saw the game played on the artificial strip leading to the Cubs searching for suitable footwear amongst the carnage of McDonalds boxes. With a captaincy power struggle brewing and the team Vegan insulted by the offer of cold chicken nuggets, Cubs took to the wicket but were soon 24-2 as the lively bounce proved an interesting challenge.

50 -2 became 65-5 with « unplayable «  deliveries and comedic run outs taking their toll.

Some enthusiastic hitting from the Newcastle student fraternity and a last wicket partnership between two ends of the age spectrum saw the score up to 104.

After a lunch break discussion on planetary science (what - there’s no rocks on Pluto!!!) the Cubs decided spilling catches would be a sure fire method of ensuring an early finish.

And so it proved with Waddesdon running out victors in 20 overs whilst Cublington micro managed their field with noone entirely sure who was in charge. Fortunately everyone returned intact despite some best efforts for self castration.

The league starts proper next week. Here’s hoping we’ve established a line of command.
