Game Changers Celebrated at the Yes We Can Oscars

Game Changers Celebrated at the Yes We Can Oscars

Harry Gadsby20 Sep - 17:00

On Sunday 14th September, Game Changers participants and volunteers attended the Leighton & Linslade Rotary ‘Yes We Can’ Oscars

The event, supported by Osborne, Morris & Morgan solicitors, was a special occasion with awards presented by the Mayor of Leighton-Linslade, wearing his chain of office, alongside the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire in her signature feathered hat.

Cricket is the seventh and newest disability sport included in the ‘Yes We Can’ inclusive sports programme. Founders Richard Johnson OBE and his wife Sandra were delighted to welcome cricket into the programme and have joined us at a few Game Changers sessions at Cublington Cricket Club.

Each sport was introduced with a short film showcasing their activities, with cricket being the very first to feature. Coach Harry was acknowledged for his strong implementation strategy, and every participant received a medal for their efforts. In addition, each sport nominated two players for special trophies. Game Changers are proud to announce our trophy winners:

Ali Adeel
Ali received the Player of the Season trophy for his outstanding cricket skills. A dedicated and passionate player, Ali has shown true commitment to Game Changers. His calm presence and consistent focus on developing his abilities make him a much-valued member of the group.

Dillon Martin
Dillon was awarded the Game Changers Player trophy for his excellent leadership. Over time, he has grown in confidence, becoming a role model for others. Dillon now actively supports coaches by demonstrating activities and encouraging his peers. A true team player.

The evening was vibrant and uplifting, as all the sports came together to celebrate achievements. There was plenty of clapping, cheering, and joy as every participant and coach was recognised.

Richard Johnson OBE reflected on ‘Yes We Can’ by saying:

“Eight years ago, we set out with a simple goal: to make sport accessible to everyone, regardless of ability. Seeing how far we’ve come, and the joy on everyone’s face at the event, is deeply humbling. This programme is proof of what can happen when a community comes together with purpose.”

Game Changers Cricket sessions continue to be delivered over the winter at The Cottesloe School in Wing on Saturdays from 12:00 - 13:00. For more information about Game Changers, please visit our website or contact the team at gamechangers@cublingtoncc.org.
