Game Changers Cricket - Mid-Season Report

Game Changers Cricket - Mid-Season Report

Harry Gadsby15 Jul - 11:00

From launch to lasting impact: Cublington CC's Game Changers Cricket champions inclusive play.

It is a year since the idea of delivering disability cricket at Cublington Cricket Club was first raised. After eight months of planning, fundraising and promotion, we delivered our first session on Saturday 10th May, and have continued to do so every week since then.

The team knew that it would take time to generate traction and build momentum. Morale has remained high among the coaches and volunteers, even after a session in May had only one participant, and another had none. Credit must go to the team for their unwavering enthusiasm, even when giving up would have been easy. Slowly, more participants have registered, and attendance is steadily but surely growing. The two most recent sessions have had six participants.

The season so far has been punctuated by events, including Bucks Cricket’s SEND Schools Festival and Super 1s Festival hosted at Cublington CC. The club’s volunteers were recognised for their support, including their efforts in providing refreshments. We are now looking forward to and planning our own festival, which is on Monday 25th August - the bank holiday. Disability cricket teams from other clubs like ours will be invited to participate in matches and activities. The event, which is from 10:00 - 13:00, will conclude with a club BBQ.

In addition to the incredible volunteer team, which is made up of coaches, cake bakers and friendly faces, thanks must go to RST Engineering, Game Changers Cricket’s principal sponsor, the Yes We Can network and ECB. Their contributions have enabled us to offer free sessions to participants, including providing t-shirts to volunteers and participants. Finally, we are incredibly grateful to the parents, who have not only registered and accompanied their children to the sessions, but have offered unwavering support and encouragement, and have thrown themselves into the activities, learning to bat, bowl and field.

Game Changers' final summer session is on Saturday 23rd August, with our festival wrapping up the season two days later, but we are not breaking for long. Starting on Saturday 13th September, and continuing until March 2026, our autumn and winter sessions are taking place at The Cottesloe School in Wing, on Saturdays from 12:00 - 13:00.

There is a view to grow Game Changers Cricket to offer more weekly sessions, for younger children, under 12, and adults. We will continue to welcome people with a wide range of disabilities, and provide inclusive and accessible opportunities to play sport.

Thank you for your continued support, attendance, following and messages of encouragement. Game Changers Cricket is a team effort, and as coach Vvs says, a family.
