Cubs Beat Table Toppers

On a bright day Cubs won the toss and had no hesitation in batting on a used track that would certainly take spin. Starting against some disciplined opening bowling Cubs progress to 39 for 2 with Junaid Allie scoring the bulk of the runs he was joined by Owen Venables and they pushed on to 95 before Junaid (58) fell just before drinks. The BNOCC spinners were bowling well with prodigious turn and the gained the upper hand as Cublington made slow progress. When Owen (58) fell with the score on 135 for 5 things were still in the balance and at 140 for 7 a score of 180 looked liked our best hope. However, Matthew Sparke (37) and Oscar Williams (22) counter-attacked superbly and made BNOCC rue their dropped catches allowing us to finish on 210-7 from our 53 overs.

BNOCC openers set about the target with patience with Oscar Williams and Tom Darling bowling accurately but at with the score already on 30 Tom struck and they built another good partnership to put on another 30 for the 2nd wicket when Matthew Sparke broke through bowling their Naeem. Cue a collapse at the hands of Owen Venables' spin as BNOCC slipped to 75 - 6 and 93 - 7. However, as with our innings there was a sting in the tail as Doak (78) struck some big blows batting with the lower order to make a BNOCC victory possible. When he fell again to Owen with score on 180 their chances were over and we wrapped up the victory in the same over.

A fantastic team performance provided a much needed and very satisfying victory.
