Yet another win

A classic Sunday game saw a Cubs Sunday XI win by five wickets with six balls to spare. Haddenham won the toss and opted to bat despite overwhelming class running through the Cubs batting line up. Both Ollie and Kit even own their own bats. Surely they should have put us in to make a game of it?!

Never mind. We knew that with our overwhelming batting CLASS we needed a good total to chase. Cubs skipper Gadsby was INSPIRATIONAL in making this happen, choosing to drop what would have been a STUNNING one-handed catch off Professor of Mathematics and Angles Howe at second slip off Potler who went on to make 95. Garth Taylor let the side down by taking two wickets at the other end with his searing pace. (Garth, we're trying to make a game of it. You've gone off script!) The Gotzheim brothers took over, with left arm pace from Jack and excellent leg spin from Harry. Harry in particular should have had more wickets but several clear cut stumping chances were missed by a cardboard cut-out of a wicket keeper, designed to look like Kit who had been handed the gloves by the INSPIRATIONAL skipper in a further attempt to make a game of it. Good spells from both were followed by Marshy with left arm 'spin'. That's what he called it, anyway. Two more wickets... The INSPIRATIONAL skipper brought himself on to bowl, mainly to bolster team morale by failing to get a hat-trick resulting a fine of one jug in the pub. More free beer. John Munday also got in on the bowling action with some tight bowling at the death.

177 to chase was a perfect Sunday target. Far enough away to make Kit get nervous and spoon one up (caught, again...) but gettable to the class that ran through the rest of the Cubs XI. After Kit's sorry dismissal (so sad, so sad, tweeted Donald Trump) Jack Gotzheim played an excellent inning at no. 3, with a very straight bat and drives down the ground. Good runs followed from Vabs to take us close, but in a final twist young Charlie Taylor, pressed into service for the oppo bowled a peach at Marshy, on 98 which rattled middle and leg. Jug avoidance by Marshy, so another jug was called for by the fines committee. Fairhust and Taylor saw us home.
