What is Game Changers Cricket?
Game Changers Cricket is Cublington Cricket Club’s inclusive and accessible disability cricket programme. It consists of weekly training sessions on Saturday mornings.

Who is Game Changers Cricket for?
Game Changers Cricket is for any 12-25-year-old, male or female, with a physical or mental disability, diagnosed condition or impairment.

Is Game Changers Cricket suitable for me or my child?
We strive to make Game Changers Cricket accessible for everyone. Our registration form asks for details on a participant's disability so that our coaches and volunteers can be prepared to adapt any activity to their abilities. Some participants will attend independently, while others may require a parent or carer’s involvement to enable them to participate fully. We will always work with a participant’s care network to ensure each participant receives the best experience possible. No previous experience or knowledge of cricket is needed. If you would like to discuss any specific accessibility needs, please contact us at gamechangers@cublingtoncc.org.

What happens during a typical Game Changers Cricket session?
On arrival, one of our friendly volunteers will meet you and take a register. Then, our coaches will run a series of activities suitable to the participants' abilities, ranging from fundamental movement to cricket-specific and game-based practices. Sessions will last one hour, during which parents or carers of participants under 18 must stay on site. Refreshments will be provided for participants, family, and friends.

What are the benefits of playing disability cricket?
Playing cricket helps participants stay fit and healthy while developing fundamental movement skills. It can also boost confidence and independence and foster social skills through interaction and friendship with like-minded individuals. Most importantly, Game Changers Cricket is fun. Cublington Cricket Club is located in the picturesque Buckinghamshire countryside, and its beautiful views provide the perfect setting for enjoying some time outdoors.

What should I wear and bring with me?
Participants should wear comfortable sports clothes, such as a tracksuit, t-shirt, or shorts. They should arrive ready to play; however, the on-site changing rooms can be used. All cricket is played with a softball, so no protective equipment or clothing is needed. Water and refreshments are available on-site; however, we recommend participants bring a water bottle.

What happens if it’s raining?
Game Changers Cricket sessions happen outside during the summer, where it can sometimes be wet or rainy. If conditions are unsafe for us to play cricket, we will attempt to run the session indoors, usually by playing table cricket.

Is Cublington Cricket Club an accessible venue?
Cublington Cricket Club has on-site parking, including two disabled parking spaces that provide step-free access to the pavilion and the cricket pitch. However, the rest of the car park is gravel, which can be tricky for wheelchair users to navigate. Parents are welcome to park alongside the tarmac driveway, where the pitch and pavilion are accessible without crossing the gravel. The pavilion is on one level and has one disabled toilet.

Cublington Cricket Club is taking active steps to improve the accessibility of its facilities so that anyone can enjoy Game Changers Cricket. We welcome any feedback or suggestions so that we can continue making necessary improvements. Please contact us at gamechangers@cublingtoncc.org.

How much do I have to pay?
Game Changers Cricket sessions are free. We are incredibly grateful to our generous sponsors and partners, who support the program's delivery.

Who are the coaches at Game Changers Cricket?
Game Changers Cricket sessions are delivered by a volunteer team of qualified ECB coaches led by Harry and VVS. The coaches are trained in first aid and recruited according to Cublington Cricket Club’s safer recruitment practices. If you are interested in becoming a coach or support coach at Game Changers Cricket, please speak to one of the volunteer team members or contact us at gamechangers@cublingtoncc.org. No prior coaching experience is needed.

How do I get involved?
The community of volunteers coordinating Game Changers Cricket are indispensable. Their skills and roles are varied, and while they are not all enthusiastic cricket fans, they all advocate for disability sports. Roles include taking a register, making tea and coffee, managing outreach efforts, and answering inquiries. If you want to get involved, please speak to one of the volunteer team members or contact us at gamechangers@cublingtoncc.org.

What else is there to do at Cublington Cricket Club?
Cublington Cricket Club has a thriving junior section, which provides cricket for children aged 5 to 18. The section trains on Sunday mornings and plays regular fixtures throughout the summer. In addition, we run ECB All Stars and Dynamos programmes on Friday evenings for children aged 5 to 11.

Senior players train on Tuesday evenings and have 1st and 2nd XI teams playing fixtures on Saturday afternoons in the Four Counties Cricket League. The Sunday XI plays sociable and friendly matches throughout the season.

Cublington Cricket Club hosts many social events for players, family, and friends throughout the year, including BBQs, golf days, and awards events.

Any Game Changers Cricket participant is welcome to explore other opportunities within the club. For more information, please speak to one of the volunteer team members.
