1st XI struggle as 2nd XI get a walkover

The 1st XI travelled to Great and Little Tew to face their 2nd XI. Winning the toss and deciding to bat Cubs were soon in a bit of trouble as first Owen Venables, then Junaid Allie (our new overseas player) fell early. Dawie Viljoen and Steve George steadied the ship a little before they too went before the score reached 50. A rebuilding job was desperately needed and Chris Baines and Alec Howe were up for the job. Baines fell for 21 while Howe continued to a well constructed 37. Unfortunately a lack of support for him meant that we were all out for 128.

In reply the Tew openers really looked in much trouble and were effective in putting away our bad balls. Special mention must go to Matthew Sparke who opened the bowling as an U14 and bowled well with little protection available due to the fielding restrictions. In the end we succumbed to a humbling 10 wkt defeat.

The 2nd XI were awarded a walkover after Brackley 2nds could not raise a side so have maximum points from the first two games.
