A beautiful sunny day welcomed Horley to Orchard Ground. After winning the toss and choosing to bat Horley made slow progress for the first 25 overs and were 80 for 3 after 25 overs which we all felt was a good position for us. Thereafter a combination of wides, inconsistent bowling and good batting allowed Horley to amass 272 for7 from their 50 overs. However, special mention must go to Matthew Sparke who bowled extremely well especially towards the end of the innings as the Horley batsman looked to attack the bowling, finishing with 1 or 46 from his 10 overs.
In reply things did not start well as Junaid Allie was bowled 2nd ball and things never really picked up after that with wickets falling regularly as Cubs only managed 132. There was some big hitting from Alex Inglis who top scored with 28 and Chris Baines showed his usual patience for 24 but no other batsman managed to make 20.
Hopefully we can put in a better performance at Great Brickhill next week.
