Positive Start for Cubs 1st XI!

The opening day of the season saw Cubs 1st XI take the field away to Banbury 3rds. An inspired call at the toss from the Cublington skipper gave them the option to bowl first. Fairhurst, fresh from the university library, bowled a couple of shocking overs before finding his line and length and troubling the batsmen. At the other end the skipper limbered up and ran in, like Fairhurst he struggled early doors and Banbury went from 30-0 to 40-5. Superb fielding from Inglis kept the runs tight and Sear caught a stunner at cover! Bridgen looked good behind the stumps and enjoyed collecting his first victim! A short rain shower gave the bowlers a break as Banbury were 80-8, Fairhurst with 5 wickets and Rodnight with 3. Sear returned and bowled full tosses for 2 overs before finding his line and clearing up the tail.

Chasing 104 to win after a good tea seemed an achievable target. Webb and Sear opened and made it look easy, Webb smashing the ball to all parts. Cubs raced to 59-0 before the first wicket fell of Webb for 42. Sear stayed put while the overseas came and went and Leonard joined Sear. Sear, Talbot, Gordon-Stuart, Rodnight and Inglis all went cheaply before the solid Leonard also lost his wicket as we still needed 4 to win! Up step mr darling and mr Saunders. Darling calmly cut a ball through backward point for 4 to clinch the game and 25 points!

Wins a win and work to do with the bat. Horley at home next week, bring it on!
