Commanding Victory

Cubs lost the toss and were stuck in bat, on a flat wicket and a quick outfield. A swift start from Owen and Calum, but some early wickets meant we were 50 for 2 off 10. The two Sams, Carter and George steadied the ship, putting on 90, with Carter getting his 50 until a slow motion stumping for Sam (george) brought in overseas Ketan at 5. A Carter and Ketan batting masterclass ensued, running hard, pressuring the fielding side, and taking control of the game. Sam doubled up his 50 and Ketan got his half century, with a partnership of 104. Both got out and messers Coote and Rowe entered the game, slapping us to a respectful 308 for 5 declared. Sam Carter finished on 146.

Oxford Downs were given 54 overs to get the runs....Cubs needed 40 to bowl them out. Some tight opening bowling from Tom Darling and Owen Venebles set the tone, and at 78 for 5 the game was ours to lose. Some resistance in the middle order, and some tough catches dropped however had Cubs trying all sorts to keep creating chances. We battled through the dry spells, and with a few crucial wickets, we finished off Oxford Downs 185 for 10. Best bowling performance from Ketan, 5 for 55 off 15 overs.

Strong batting, and a good fielding performance from all, for a comprehensive victory!
