Cubs smash Bicester & North Oxford

Playing away, Cubs won the toss and elected to bat on what appeared to be a batting track. Jack Rodnight and Owen Venebles opened up the batting, but the ball wasn't coming on as well as expected, and Owen gifted a catch for 17. Some questionable running meant skipper Sam George was out for 15, with Rodnight following swiftly, caught on the boundary. Cubs 75 for 3. Enter last weeks man of the match Sam Carter, and Ketan Patel. Some lovely stroke play and manufactured shots kept the score board ticking over. Both players looked comfortable, until once again, poor running had Sam heading back to the club house for 34. Ketan continued to bat well however, with good support in the form sof Calum Gunning, scoring 71 before being caught at midwicket. Cubs 213 for 5 off 44 overs. Contributions from all had Cubs all out in the 53rd over with 230 on the board.

With bellies full from tea our opening bowlers took some time to find their rhythm, but it wasn't long until chances started coming. Every other ball was an inside snick or an edge past the slips. Despite this the wickets weren't coming, but at 56 for no wicket off 10, the runs were. It took Ollie Farihurst to get the breakthrough, with Ketan Patel taking a solid catch at extra cover. Two more quick wickets meant at 85 for 3 Oxford needed to reset. However, first change bowler, Owen "voodoo" Venebles was in fine form, preventing any counter attack, and spelling the beginning of the end for Oxford. Wickets came in a flurry, Owen moving the ball both ways, with control very rarely seen. Cubs fielded well and took their chances. Good support bowling from Will Rodnight saw the next 7 wickets falling for 14 runs, leaving Oxford 131 runs short.
