Cubs Win Again

The first game trialing the new form of cricket, 50/50 Win/Lose.

Cubs won the toss, and elected to bat on a questionable wicket. Off to a steady start with Owen Venebles and returning Vice Captain Kit Gordon Stuart, before a stunning catch at cover brought in Skipper Sam George. A couple of high scoring overs and The two 6ft 5 men looked comfortable, until Owen got bowled by a decent delivery. Enter Sam "hitrunsforfun" Carter...3 balls later, dismissed, dabbing outside off stump. Skeptical of an lbw decision, Skipper Sam Gorge quickly followed, leaving Cubs 77 for 4, with Ketan Patel and George Coote at the crease. The ship steadied a little, as Ketan and George ran well, and George found the boundry trying to smash 6s over extra cover, but not quite finding the "middle". This was short lived however, as George made their 3rd change bowler look exceptional - getting cleaned up playing all round it. 111 for 5.

Room mate Calum Gunning settled in, and he and Ketan visibly pushed the pressure from Cubs to Brickhill. Running superbly (most of the time) between the wickets, with great striking of the ball from both batsmen, they began forcing misfields, and the fielding side were really put on the back foot. They put on 120 together. Ketan finishing on 75 and Calum 40. Some contributions from the bottom order, Alec Howe hitting the most unbelievable 6, and Nick Rowe some of the best looking shots of the day, Cubs finished 277 - 9 off their 50 overs.

Feeling confident, Owen Venebles opened the bowling, with (what seemed like madness) Will Rodnight having the new ball for the first time. Both big men hit the deck hard, on a wicket that was not easy to judge. Venebles struck first. Brickhill 0 for 1. Great fielding and tight bowling from boths ends meant the pressure was really on. Cubs created a hole that Brickhill were struggling to get out of. Another wicket fell, this time for Rodnight, and Brickhill were 20 for 2 off 10 overs, well behind the run rate, and losing good batsmen. The next 3 wickets went for 13 runs, with Rodnight picking up 2 and Venebles 1. Venebles finished his spell on 2 for 20 off 10. Rodnight 4 for 37 of 10. Brickhill breathed a sigh of relief as the openers finally departed, but Cubs didn't let off, with pace man Calum Gunning joining the fray and bowling their top scorer and potential danger man. Brickhill 67 for 7. From then it was all over. Cubs continued to field like demons, notable performances from Nick Rowe on the boundary, and Sam Carter behind the stumps with 5 catches. Ketan picked up 2 wickets, then George Coote bowled 1 ball, for 1 wicket, caught by Matthew Sparke to Finish the match. Brickhill bowled out in 151 balls.

Cubs win by 186 runs.
