Sunday XI vs The Lee

Cublington played host to The Lee in a run-filled Sunday friendly. Cubs big score of 249 for four was set up by Kit Gordon-Stuart (62) and Stuart Bridgen (101 retired not out) who put on a chanceless 160 run partnership off the first 21 overs. Alec Howe (30 not out), batting with unusual caution, and Tom Gadsby (26 not out), chancing his arm, added some gloss at the end to set The Lee a stiff task.

While opening bowler Nick Clarke looked rusty at one end (needs more time in the nets, Ed.) Ben Powell-Williams opened with excellent and accurate of spin from the other end and bowled eight overs unchanged taking one for 29. Two wickets from Cameron Bullock and one each from Daniel Hellgren-Derry and Tom Powell-Williams plus a direct hit run out from Daniel H-G and a long range throw from Alec 'Howitzer' Howe to affect another run out kept The Lee regularly pegged back. The visitors reached 212 for seven off their 40 overs but never quite got within reach of the asking rate. Our thanks to Steve Mackie for umpiring and to The Lee for playing the match in an excellent spirit. We look forward to visiting them next season.
