Batting practice for The Lee

In the past we have sent a strong team to The Lee. This time, well, you'll see.

Shorn of first team players the Cubs stand-in skipper agreed that, yes, perhaps The Lee should bat first. So they did. They batted and batted and then batted some more. Mike Aitch at the top of the order fell just short of a century to Charlie Ings-Chambers (masquerading one the score card as Charlie Birch until I can sort out the website) while Julian Ess finished not out on 112. (Chaps, when copying across the scorecard please could you get just a little more by way of detail?) The total was a monster 350. The bowling ranged from economical (Sparkey - 13 runs off three overs) to comical (Quintin and Martin both going for 15 per over). Tony Gore, on debut, looked steady with five overs for 30 runs. Expensive wickets for Howe, Mackie and both Q. and C. Ings-Chambers.

The Cubs 'chase' reached 156 before the end. Highlights were 39 for Quintin before he got hungry and therefore distracted, spooning one up to the bowler. Oscar Middleton weighed in with a creditable 19 not out, valuable red ink for the averages.

Onwards, and southwards again next week to Ley Hill.
