Although the rain denied an actual win

A splendid visit to Ley Hill ended, just, in a win for the weather, with Cubs denied on the brink of victory.

Ley Hill Skipper Paul Green won the toss and put us in to bat, mostly by arrangement. Calum and Vabs led the charge and added 50 for the first wicket, Vabs falling LBW to Peterson for 16. Ollie Fairhurst joined Calum and the two first team opening bowlers added 114 before Calum retired on passing his previous high score of 106. His 110 was pretty flawless and Ley Hill were happy to see the back of him. The Chairman came and went for a golden duck, bringing The Wazir to the crease. He added 45 and was followed by the team's youth policy, Oscar and Ferdy Middleton (masquerading as Martin on the score sheet) and Harry Gadsby. Oscar showed good stickability before being dismissed for six, while Ferdy was just a touch over-enthusiastic in running, running himself out for one. Harry was joined by his dad and they added an unbeaten 41 to take the match beyond the reach of Ley Hill.

Harry Gadsby took a wicket with his first ball to peg Ley Hill back, and was unfortunate not to have two more caught, notably the two top scorers in the Ley Hill innings. (Oh, Ollie!) Lown and Hutchins put on 91 for the second wicket at a very respectable rate. Tom Gadsby bowled the dangerous Hutchins with a peach that nipped back sharply off a length to take the top of off stump. Further wickets for the two Middletons and Alex Inglis pegged the opposition back every time they threatened to break out but with just three overs remaining to be bowled and 72 needed to win the steady drizzle became a downpour and the game was called off. Cubs win on D/L, for sure.
