...despite a ton by Dawie and 61* from the Howitzer

Eleven men from Cublington (no ten,no nine, no ten) played eight from Sandford St Martin (with two sub fielders from Cubs). They won.

You want more?

Oh, all right.

We won the toss and started badly. Charlie 'Nelson' Perkin took one in the eye and bled profusely all over the wicket. Skipper Gadsby generously took one for the team, got himself out for a duck and took on the role of ambulance driver and took Nelson to Banbury A&E. With a four hour wait time he abandoned Nelson to his fate. 'How is he?' asked the oppo. 'He didn't make it, sorry guys, funeral on Tuesday.' Alright, he pulled through .

Back at the Sandford ground things were going well for the Cubs. After three ducks (Gadsby, Farr and Clarke) Dawie and The Howitzer took control of the innings. Howitzer finished unbeaten on 61 (now worth a top order slot in the 1s, please note) and Dawie went from 99 to 103 off the last ball of the innings. 214 looked a decent total. Ethan Viljoens and Matthew 'Sparkle' Sparkle fielded 35 over for the oppo, and bowled, too. Far too well, in my view. Otherwise an unbeaten stand of 146 for the fifth wicket is probably some sort of record for the Sunday XI.

Sandford went hard at the Cubs bowling . Vabs took the only two wickets to fall. The ambulance driver disappeared to collect the patient who had pulled through. Freddie Perkin was the most economical with four overs for 21 but sadly the wickets did not fall as required and 218 runs were reached off just 26 overs.
