A damp squib enlivened by a pair of ducks

The final game of the season was damp all round. Damp wicket, damp outfield, damp weather and very soggy Cublington batting. Sparkle and Bainesy opened the batting (Sparkle again under protest at being made to open). It was short lived as he poked his second ball (a slow full toss) limply to shortish extra cover. It was the fault of the old people (they told me to block - so why didn't you block?!) the captain for making him open (he scored 50* the last time he opened) and the cricket gods. Never mind. Bainesy hit 40 off 47 balls, a very fine effort when all around were collapsing. Howitzer nurdled a very uncharacteristic 12 of 37 balls and no-one else got much. Ketan failed to live up to his potential and let himself down by getting himself caught at deep long on by Jack Sloan's belly button. 83 all out. As the opposition had 12 players they allowed our younger opener to have another go. Two ducks in one innings is a new one on me.

Ketan and Gadsby opened the bowling for the Cubs. It was tight (from Gadsby) and fast (from Patel) and with the opposition at 29 for 3 off 14 overs and 39 for 4 off 18 there was hope. Unfortunately Tom Powell-Williams batting at 4 for Harrow Wayfarers played very sensibly, survived a missed stumping by Bainesy off his brother's bowling and saw Harrow home for the loss of just one more wicket. Good bowling from Ben P-W, Cameron and Freddie P but we had made far too few runs to set any kind of challenge. 130 would have been interesting and 150 perhaps a winning total. We'll never know. A good oppo and we'll play them again next year. Note to Farzi - we'll need a stronger team.
