Cublington U13s comfortably beat Wendover

The U13 Boys got their season off to a triumphant start with a comfortable 21 run win over Wendover in the Bucks County Cup. Played at Cublington, Wendover won the toss and put the Young Cubs into bat. A solid start to the innings was made by opening pair Rhys Nicholas and Ben Perkin. The foundation for the innings however was a well constructed 30 not out from Ben. Good contributions were made by Rhys, Will Roy and Charlie Taylor who all reached double figures. Charlie in particular batting very sensibly to finish 12 not out. The innings closed on 108 for 7 after 20 overs, a competitive total with the match finely balanced at the halfway stage.
Wendover made a very positive start aided by some wayward bowling offering too many wides. After 10 overs Wendover were just ahead of the required run rate on 55 for the loss of 3 wickets and a tight finish was in sight. However, Wendover did not have the strength in depth in their batting as both the run rate and wickets began to fall. They were eventually bowled out for 87 in the last over, a comfortable 21 run victory. The bowlers all contributed with wickets spread around the team. There were in fact opportunities for both Josh Davidson and Michael Chater to get a 'hat trick' both just missing out. The fielding was sharp throughout, with some great catches and a couple of stumpings from Rhys.
